The Scarab Crawler is a robust, small creature with thick skin and a big, light shell for protection. It can lift its shell to look bigger, which is a striking way to scare off threats, but this exposes a vulnerable spot. Adult Na’vi use its shells for tools and armor, while young Na’vi play a game imitating its defensive pose. As scavengers, Scarab Crawlers form small groups, using strong jaws and tusks to eat from dead animals and defend their finds. Female Scarab Crawlers lay about 25 eggs in the ground, hiding them with plants for safety. They feed their young by eating a lot and then regurgitating the food, helping them grow up.
