This is one of my creature designs in Ubisoft's game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. I did the concept design and the illustration.
Tiger Crickets are big insects living in grasslands and meadows, using their eight eyes to find food and watch for danger. They make a unique rattling sound with their large hollow thighs to attract mates. Their mating ritual includes lying flat to show peace, creating a joint rhythm with their sounds, and then performing a high-jumping dance to display their fitness and commitment. After mating, they stay together for life, raising their young. The Zeswa clan celebrates these crickets with a "Dance of the Tiger Cricket" at their ceremonies, where partners mimic the crickets' dance in a playful competition, with the one who falls first losing.
